Educational Visit to Tughlaqabad Biodiversity Park, New Delhi

14 September, 2026

   9:00 am–4:00 pm

Organized by: Maharishi School of Pharmaceuticals in coordination with IQAC

Objective of the Activity

The objective of the educational visit was to provide B.Pharm students with practical, field-based exposure to biodiversity and medicinal plant resources, complementing their classroom learning in pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical botany. The visit aimed to help students identify medicinal plants in their natural habitat, understand principles of biodiversity conservation, and appreciate the ecological and therapeutic significance of plant resources used in pharmaceutical research and healthcare.

Participating Students

Students from the B.Pharm 5th Semester (3rd Year) of the Maharishi School of Pharmaceuticals (MSOP) participated in the educational visit. A total of 40 students took part, accompanied by Ms. Preetshika, Faculty, and Mr. Abhishek, Lab Technician.

About the Visit

The Maharishi School of Pharmaceuticals (MSOP), Maharishi University of Information Technology (MUIT), Noida, in coordination with the IQAC, successfully organized an educational visit to Tughlaqabad Biodiversity Park, New Delhi, on 14th September 2026, for B.Pharm 5th Semester (3rd Year) students.

During the visit, students explored the park's diverse plant species and were introduced to a range of medicinal plants, their identification features, therapeutic uses, and ecological roles. The accompanying faculty and lab technician guided students through the plant collection, explaining aspects of plant taxonomy, conservation practices, and the relevance of medicinal flora to pharmaceutical sciences. Students were encouraged to observe, document, and relate their field findings to concepts studied in their pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical botany coursework.

The visit provided students with valuable practical exposure to biodiversity, medicinal plants, plant identification, conservation, and the ecological significance of medicinal flora. It helped students connect classroom knowledge with real-world observations and strengthened their understanding of the importance of plant resources in pharmaceutical education and research.

Learning Outcomes

Through this educational visit, students were able to:

  • Identify and classify various medicinal plants based on their morphological features.
  • Understand the ecological importance of biodiversity conservation and its link to sustainable use of medicinal plant resources.
  • Relate theoretical concepts from pharmacognosy and pharmaceutical botany to real-world plant specimens and ecosystems.
  • Develop observational and documentation skills relevant to fieldwork in pharmaceutical botany.
  • Recognize the role of medicinal plants in drug discovery, traditional medicine, and modern pharmaceutical research.
  • Appreciate the need for conservation of biodiversity as a resource for future pharmaceutical and healthcare innovation.

Conclusion

The visit was an enriching learning experience that encouraged students to appreciate nature, biodiversity conservation, and the potential of medicinal plants in healthcare and pharmaceutical sciences. It reinforced the practical relevance of their academic curriculum and fostered a deeper interest in plant-based pharmaceutical research among the participating students.
