The Department of Media at Maharishi University of Information Technology successfully organized a two-day event on April 29 and 30, 2026, to commemorate World Press Freedom Day. The event aimed to raise awareness among students about the importance of press freedom, ethical journalism, and the role of media in a democratic society.

The celebration witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, who actively engaged in a series of creative and intellectual activities. The event featured competitions such as face painting, slogan writing, poster making, and extempore speaking, all centred on the theme of press freedom.

The face painting competition showcased students’ artistic expression, with participants creatively depicting themes such as freedom of speech, media responsibility, and truth in journalism. The slogan writing competition encouraged students to craft impactful and thought-provoking messages highlighting the significance of a free and fair press.

The poster-making competition provided a platform for visual storytelling, where participants designed compelling posters reflecting contemporary issues faced by the media, including censorship, fake news, and journalist safety. Meanwhile, the extempore competition tested students’ spontaneity, critical thinking, and communication skills as they spoke on topics related to media ethics, freedom of expression, and the role of journalism in society.

The event not only fostered creativity and awareness but also encouraged students to critically engage with the challenges and responsibilities of the media industry. Students who secured positions, as well as those who participated enthusiastically, were appreciated by the faculty members. The two-day event proved to be a great success, fulfilling its objective of promoting awareness about press freedom while providing a dynamic platform for student engagement and expression.

More than 60 students of department of media have participated in this workshop accompanied by all the faculty member of Media department. The session was highly informative, interactive and motivating for all students.
