On the Celebration of National Science Day
27th February, 2026 (Friday) | 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM
Organized by: School of Humanities
The Department of Science at the School of Humanities (SOSH) celebrated National Science Day on 27th February 2026 with great enthusiasm and academic vigour. National Science Day is observed every year on 28th February to commemorate the landmark discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir C. V. Raman in 1928, an achievement that earned him the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930 and placed India at the forefront of global scientific achievement. The 2026 celebration was organized to promote scientific awareness, inspire a spirit of inquiry, and encourage students to engage meaningfully with science and research in the service of national progress. The event featured a rich series of academic competitions — Quiz, Poster Presentation, Model Exhibition, and Oral Presentation — along with a prize distribution ceremony and an inspiring inaugural and closing address.
The theme for National Science Day 2026 was "Women in Science – Catalyzing Viksit Bharat." This theme underscored the vital and transformative role that women scientists play in driving India's scientific and technological advancement and their indispensable contribution to the nation's vision of becoming a fully developed, self-reliant, and globally competitive society. The theme served as both a celebration of women's achievements in science and a call to action — encouraging institutions, educators, and students to actively champion gender equity in scientific education and research, in alignment with the broader goals of Viksit Bharat.
The programme commenced at 11:00 AM with an inaugural session in which the Dean of the School of Humanities, Dr. (Prof.) Archana Pandey, formally inaugurated the event and addressed the gathering. In her inaugural address, Dr. Pandey spoke passionately about the enduring legacy of Sir C. V. Raman and emphasized the importance of nurturing scientific curiosity and a research-oriented mindset among young students. The esteemed guests — Dr. Mudita Agarwal, Dr. Amita Rathi, Dr. Ritu Garg, Dr. K. B. Asthana, Mr. Gaurav Thakur, and Mr. Ankit Tyagi — along with the faculty members of SOH and SOSC, graced the occasion. The significance of National Science Day, the contributions of Indian scientists to global research, and the inspiring theme of women in science were highlighted during the inaugural session. The entire event was led and coordinated with commendable dedication by Dr. Tenzit Tyagi and Dr. Priyanka Bhardwaj. The decoration arrangements were thoughtfully managed by Dr. Rinkal and Ms. Sonakshi Saxena, who created a visually vibrant and thematically appropriate atmosphere for the celebration.
Following the competitions, certificates and prizes were distributed to the winners and participants as a token of appreciation for their efforts and academic excellence. The prize distribution ceremony was presided over by the esteemed guests — Dr. Mudita Agarwal, Dr. Amita Rathi, Dr. Ritu Garg, Dr. K. B. Asthana, Mr. Gaurav Thakur, and Mr. Ankit Tyagi — whose words of encouragement and recognition greatly inspired all participants. The winners of the Quiz, Poster Presentation, Model Exhibition, and Oral Presentation competitions were honoured for their exceptional contributions, and all participants received certificates in recognition of their enthusiastic engagement with the day's activities.
The celebration of National Science Day 2026 was a resounding success, fostering scientific curiosity and encouraging students to engage meaningfully with research and innovation. Dr. Tenzit Tyagi and Dr. Priyanka Bhardwaj took the lead role in organising this event, and with the dedicated coordination of all faculty members, they ensured a seamlessly conducted and deeply impactful programme. The event concluded with a closing note delivered by Dr. (Prof.) Archana Pandey, who expressed heartfelt gratitude to the esteemed guests, faculty members, student participants, and volunteers for their invaluable contributions to the day's success. She reiterated the importance of cultivating scientific temperament in everyday life and reaffirmed the institution's commitment to inspiring the next generation of scientists, innovators, and thinkers. The enthusiasm and active participation of students made the event memorable and deeply inspiring. Faculty of the School of Science and Humanities and the School of Science, including Dr. Tenzit Tyagi, Dr. Priyanka Bhardwaj, Mr. Amit, Dr. Surbhi, Dr. Himani, Dr. Sudhir Pandey, Dr. Swati, Ms. Sonakshi Saxena, Dr. Rinkal, Dr. Lata, Dr. Alok kumar, Dr Alok kr.
